Juan Uslé

Hazas de Cesto (Cantabria), 1954

Juan Uslé studied Fine Arts at the Superior School of Fine Arts of San Carlos of Valencia. He is considered an artist within an expressionist abstraction. It has been said that he has become the international outpost of Spanish painting. Proofs of that are his implantation in the New York scene and his presence in the last Documenta in Kassel. Uslé's work is recognized as one of the most evocative of his generation.

Currently, he is characterized by the use of parallel bands of broad brushstrokes that run the surface of the fabric with great delicacy, a quality that is repeated in the way of superimposing the diluted layers of material together with a superb handling of colour. In 2002 he received the National Prize in Plastic Arts.
