about Aina Cortés Pinya

Inca (Mallorca), 1945

For the multidisciplinary and multifaceted artist who is Aina Cortés, her guiding thread is her own life. If there is something constant, it is the sea. That sea that includes so many aspects and so many unknowns, those tones that go from almost black, through subtle or deep grey to reach the whole spectrum in a reflection; this sea is what catches the eye of this artist who has made her life and her work.

Having trained as a musician, her sensitivity asks her to go into something more visual and prepares herself in different workshops and art schools. Enthusiastic of everything that can bring wealth to her creations with overflowing creativity, she uses techniques as varied as drawing, painting, engraving and ceramics as well as photography. She has made more than twenty individual exhibitions and participated in numerous groups, exhibiting in New York, London, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Brussels, Finland, Madrid, Malaga, Santander, Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and many spaces of the islands.

about the artist's works

Aina Cortés' work focuses on painting, it is one of her most recurring techniques but lately, her work has been enriched with other techniques that she likes to investigate and experiment. A great enthusiast of engraving and all its technical possibilities goes into abstract ceramic creations, where we can always find references to the marine world. As for the colour, her great dominant is the blue and focus the water from very close planes where the oceanic perspective is lost and to finish in the most essential, the water.
