Art Madrid'24 – Alberto Guerrero

Alberto Guerrero

Barcelona, 1975

He has been painting since he was a child and by vocation. In order to ensure a solid education that would allow him to understand art in depth, he studied Art History and Restoration. For eleven years he painted in his own studio while working as a restorer for important private collections and several churches in Spain and the Middle East. In 2009 he decided to give up restoration to devote himself entirely to painting, his profession and way of life today. During his time as a painting restorer, Alberto Guerrero becomes obsessed with the search for the truth behind the reality, the authenticity hidden behind the layers that repainting, time, dirt or mere circumstances have added to the talent of so many artists.

His work as a creator starts from a process that is the inverse of restoration: Guerrero superimposes layers of matter, exploring the relationship between the different layers of colour and the textures that are generated. As a result, he seeks a harmonious whole, which he explains as an analogy of history, made up of millions of factors and circumstances that overlap, relate to each other and influence each other to give rise to specific events or periods. A work that also refers to man's identity, made up of a compendium of layers of reality, some visible and others hidden, which only superimposed make him who he is.
