Art Madrid'26 – Carlos Quintana

Carlos Quintana

La Habana (Cuba), 1966

On rare occasions the work of an artist departs from the range and scope of his contemporaries. Carlos Quintana is a prime example of an artist whose work is basically unrelated to the work of other artists; he is original in every respect. Of the many artists I have known, few have shown the insight Carlos has in his portrayal of humanity. Quintana is the only well-known Cuban artist whose post-expressionism art, with its bold colors, noticeably sets him apart from his peers and allows the observer to compare his art with the best of post-expressionism, which is emphasized by its brilliance, is striking and marks Quintana as a world-class artist whose work is recognized internationally.

He studied at the Institute of Design. He has held a large number of solo exhibitions since 1984, among them: Ocho, Gallery Habana, Havana City, Cuba; Carlos Quintana, Arario Beijing Sape 2, China; Norte, Gallery Orange, Montreal & Lacerte Gallery, Quebec, Canada; Lateralidad Cruzada, Gallery Habana, Havana City, Cuba; Cuerda floja, Instituto de América / Centro Damián Bayón, Granada, Spain; and El futuro en cualquier momento va a ser el pasado, Juan Ruiz Gallery, Maracaibo, Venezuela.

His group exhibitions include: Pinta, the Latin American Art Fair in New York, Gallery Habana, Havana City; Scope Basel, Gallery Habana, Havana City, Cuba; Art Brussels, Gallery Habana, Havana City, Cuba; Palm Beach, Louis Lacerte Gallery, Quebec, Canada; ARCO, Madrid, Gallery Habana, Havana City, Cuba, among many others.
