Art Madrid'24 – José Benítez

José Benítez

Antequera (Málaga), 1963

Full of suggestions, José Benítez's works invite the public to explore the labyrinths of the author's pictorial memory and to participate in his utopian world, full of sublime landscapes, monsters, ruins and covens. Over the years Benitez's works have been located on the border, walking between reality and the dissolution of forms.

His is a scientific and organic painting, he works the forms with the thoroughness of Flemish painting, his objects are complex organisms in a continuous metamorphosis that evoke a primordial structurality. The painter places in the earthly part of the plane, his blunt and dreamlike creations in clear opposition to the horizon line, full of misty skies that evoke the romantic and sublime landscapes of Friedrich or Turner.
