Art Madrid'24 – José Guerrero

José Guerrero

Granada, 1914

José Guerrero moved to New York in 1949 where he relates to Abstract Expressionist artists and participates with his work in various exhibitions, it was there where he found his place in the art world, with a language that was discovered as it incorporates art gestural close to the first generation of the School of New York.

Later, he returned to Spain with his family and his friendship with the Informalistas of the Cuenca group meant the definitive reunion of Guerrero with his native country. In the seventies, Guerrero became a reference for a new generation of Spanish painters who defended the recovery of the taste for painting, for its conception and practice, based on experimenting with the fields of colour and abstract but not empty of content. 1984, receives the gold medal for merit in the Fine Arts.
