Art Madrid'24 – Juan Fernández Álava

Juan Fernández Álava

Piedras Blancas (Asturias), 1978

Juan Fernández Álava has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca. In his work, he recognizes classical influences opting for oil on canvas. His portraits offer, however, a nuance of the actuality that relies on poses, activities or on the clothes themselves to offer a clear idea of a specific time. Juan Fernández is committed to portraits but at the same time continues to draw drawings that he presents as installations.

He has participated in numerous groups since 2004, in spaces such as DA2 Salamanca, Le Peuple (Brussels), LABoral, Baluarte, the Palacio Conde de Toreno de Oviedo, the Niemeyer Center or the aforementioned Guillermina Caicoya, Altamira and La New rooms.
