Art Madrid'26 – Lorenzo Fernández

Lorenzo Fernández

Madrid, 1970

Lorenzo Fernández (Madrid, 1970) has chosen to go against the current in the digital age. Despite new technologies, Fernández follows the techniques of the old masters, working exclusively with oil and acrylic on board, without resorting to mechanical means such as photography. His work is known for its unsettling realism and for his ability to renew contemporary figurative painting in Spain. Every object in his paintings is a symbol that invites the viewer to decipher its meaning.

His compositions, precise and polished, allow the viewer to almost feel the textures and surfaces he depicts. The objects, carefully arranged, suggest dialogues between different worlds, such as old toys alongside scholarly books or flowers next to electric motors. Over time, his works have incorporated more symbolic elements, such as “images of images,” including fragments of other paintings or photographs, and figures that grow disproportionately within the pictorial space. This evolution introduces visual chaos and new interpretations into his paintings, creating a universe where the everyday and the dreamlike intertwine.
