Art Madrid'26 – Nuno Horta

Nuno Horta

Porto, Portugal, 1977

Nuno Horta is a visual artist based on photography, with a career spanning over 25 years dedicated to exploring identity, the human condition, and the psychological dimension of the image. His work develops from the human figure—especially the face—understood as a symbolic territory where memory, desire, tension, and transcendence intersect.

Between an initial, more classical approach to photography and a second phase marked by digital experimentation, Nuno Horta constructs autonomous visual universes with a strong symbolic and atmospheric charge, often described as dreamlike, enigmatic, and introspective. His series explore themes such as masks, metamorphosis, the double, spirituality, and the relationship between the visible and the invisible, affirming photography not only as a record but as a conceptual and philosophical language.

Alongside his artistic practice, he is a designer and founder of the Nhdesign studio, created in 2004, where he develops Branding, Editorial & Web projects.

Based in Porto, Nuno Horta has achieved growing international recognition, with an increasingly strong presence in the contemporary photography circuit. The “Renaissance” series, created especially for Art Madrid 2026, reinforces the maturity and originality of his practice, positioning him as one of the most significant figures in the new generation of Portuguese photography.
