Art Madrid'25 – Saskya Fun Sang

Saskya Fun Sang

Chicago (Estados Unidos),

Saskya Fun Sang obtained her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with emphasis on Ceramics, Printmaking and Fiber art in May 2016. Through her work she explores ideas about gender, sex and the female body, allowing her pieces to exist in ambiguous territories where binaries are not only questioned, but disrupted. This ambiguity presented in her pieces is achieved not only by the imagery she creates but also by the combination of materials used, such as fabrics, clay, paper, found objects, etc. as well as the use of repetition and deconstruction. She is also in constant exploration for new ways to deal with instances of pain, a search that allows -and forces- her to incorporate documents, memories, dreams and painfully personal experiences in her art practice, treating them as materials in themselves. Through her work, the personal and material become one, creating a process that is meticulously difficult both physically and emotionally. However, these are the elements that end up becoming vital to the final product.
