The Arte Periférica Gallery was founded in 1991 by Anabela Antunes and Pedro Reigadas. Since 1994 it is located in the Cultural Center of Belém, in Lisbon. In recent years it has tried to expand its activity promoting cultural exchange, ensuring the curatorship and the organisation of exhibitions of Portuguese artists and from other Portuguese-speaking countries, in Macao.

In Lisbon, it has organised residences and exhibitions of young Macanese artists. In 2017 it co-organised with the Oriente Foundation a collective exhibition of artists of the gallery at the Minsheng Art Museum, in Beijing. It participates in international fairs since 1993.
