Art Madrid'24 – Nacho Zubelzu – Alas de luciérnaga (2023)
about Nacho Zubelzu
Cantabria, 1966
Painter, sculptor, performer, video-creator, the life of this multifaceted artist is marked by his passion for art and nature from the fascination produced by the environment of the Campoo Valley in Cantabria. He draws on his own experiences in the mountains of Campoo to internalize the beauty of the natural elements and capture them plastically in paintings, photographs, sculptures, large-scale installations, performances and small illustrations. The artist, who has never drawn a dividing line between painting and sculpture, rather, they are areas that complement each other, uses in his works the repetition and variation that generate sequences in which an analysis of ideas, sensations and feelings is addressed. In recent years, his travels to African countries (Kenya and Gambia) and Asian countries (China, Mongolia, Nepal), or to places of overflowing nature, such as the Atacama Desert in Chile, have inspired his most recent work, in which he captures the profile and the trace, the essence of nature and human beings.
