about Quentin Garel

París, (Francia), 1975

Quentin Garel currently works between Paris and Normandy, where he has a workshop dedicated to his monumental sculptures. Garel graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1998) and is a resident at the Casa Velazquez in Madrid from 1998 to 2000. Quentin Garel's work is connected to the animal world: he is inspired by anatomy, skeletons and archaeological remains to create sculptures of hybrid forms. He plays with reality and changes the scale of his animals, to deviate from the forms and invent a population of a parallel paleontological world. At first glance, his sculptures look like vestiges of real animals, in a subtle assemblage of wood and bronze that the artist works in such a way that they are indistinguishable to the naked eye. Garel is an archaeologist of the present, reinterpreting the animal figure through a multitude of morphological declinations.
