Art Madrid'26 – José Carlos Balanza

José Carlos Balanza

Logroño, 1958

José Carlos Balanza is a multidisciplinary artist who works in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, sound, action, word, etc. This allows him, in addition to projecting his exhibitions from different aspects, to participate both in projects in which he gives priority to the object and in others of an electronic nature (video art and multimedia). The recurring themes in Balanza's work are time, dimensionality, light, language, limit, logic, the drawing he uses as a stroke with which he draws his existence. Concepts through which he develops a discourse in which he relates his artistic process, his existence and his understanding of the world.

From the beginning of his artistic career, the sculpture has had a very important presence in Balanza's work, iron being the main material; matter with which it seems to densify his artistic-existential process. His work is represented in different public institutions, collections and museums. It also has a public sculpture in different places.
