Art Madrid'24 – José Carlos Viana

José Carlos Viana

Olinda, Pernambuco (Brasil), 1947

Her drawing is a frequent whirlwind of ideas, sometimes of fantastic realism or erotic ludism, very unsubtle, but finely represented in the midst of the labyrinths of negative spaces, which seem to become open windows to express this whirlwind of ideas. Agonising ideas of a world that is born from the body of a woman, broadly entangled, as if from there the figuration itself was born, which is completed with collages, textures and colours.

The colour, sometimes painterly, runs free and transparent, in an attempt to open up those spaces for his eloquent figuration. As a good northeasterner, and conscious of this submission, he brings out the symbols, myths, truth and dreams of the unconscious, bathed by the burning sun, with the light and warmth of his land.
