Art Madrid'26 – Leon Löwentraut

Leon Löwentraut

Kaiserslautern, 1998

Leon Löwentraut (Kaiserslautern, 1998) is one of the most prominent and sought-after contemporary artists of his generation. He began painting as a young child, and by the age of 15 his works were already being shown in renowned galleries, marking the beginning of an exceptional artistic career.

His style is defined by a unique combination of charcoal drawing, bold brushstrokes, and delicate finishes applied directly from the paint tube. This technique gives his works an unusual quality that often evokes a modern interpretation of relief sculpture.

Löwentraut has presented his work in major international venues, including New York, London, Zurich, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Florence. His extensive production includes paintings, sculptures, and large-scale installations such as Global Gate, a monumental traveling sculpture built from shipping containers that promotes the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals through an immersive artistic experience. Also notable is the interactive project VOLAR, developed in collaboration with the University of Kaiserslautern, which received two gold medals from the Art Directors Club.
