Juan Genovés

Valencia, 1930

To speak of Juan Genovés is to speak of Spanish Contemporary History. His firm conviction about the transformative power of art and his commitment to the environment, led him to take part in some of the most significant cultural groups in the post-war Spanish scene: Los Siete (1949), Parpallós (1956) and Hondo (1960). In this last group, which involved new figurative approaches to Informalism, Genovés developed an expressionist and provocative painting. Since 2015, he devised a new approach to his art practise by creating series of 10 editions that he then intervenied by hand with multiple materials (paint, fabric, found objects...) until every work is complitly different and original.
