Art Madrid'26 – Asun Valet

Asun Valet

Zaragoza, 1958

“…now you don’t see me” is the theme of the artist’s latest series, which will be presented at Art Madrid. It addresses the notion of perception through a play of alternations between absent and present visual elements, offering a playful approach to the idea of absence. The name of a color appears embroidered, embossed-like, standing out from the background only through its relief, without any of the qualities that would define it—hue, brightness or saturation. This absence/presence becomes, from the outset, the trigger of the work, structuring the composition and influencing the stains and strokes that shape it. These are beloved colors, chosen passionately, with varied nominal references drawn from everyday language, color theory texts, art materials and the internet. Thus, perception itself becomes a subjective and open experience, in which this optical absence stimulates our imagination. The “embossed” color appears, paradoxically, as the element that energizes the whole.
