about Heiner Meyer
Alemania, 1953
Heiner Meyer is a pop painter and sculptor who lives and works in Bielefeld, Germany. He was born in 1953 in Bielefeld. Interested in art from a very early age, he had his first exhibition at the age of 19 at a gallery in Münster. In 1973–1974 he lived in London and Cadaqués, working as an assistant to Salvador Dalí. Heiner Meyer studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig, where he began teaching in 1983. At that time, he established his first studio in Bielefeld.
His work often contains contrasting elements. Heiner Meyer combines different techniques such as photography and painting, as well as various patterns. His works resemble advertisements in terms of their themes, colors, and contrasts. His recurring motifs come from the world of casinos, luxury items (cars, perfumes, diamonds), and advertising (slogans). These elements are often combined with a portrait of a celebrity or model.
