Art Madrid'26 – Pedro Cherino – OPEN FIELD (2025)

about Pedro Cherino
Barcelona, 1992
Through his art practice, Pedro Cherino tries to become a self-taught painter. He has no previous painting education; in fact, he was schooled as a designer first and then as a sculptor. Pedro explores the act of painting by pouring layers and layers of different colors that create a fortune composition. The material's thickness pushes the paint to extend beyond the canvas, transforming it into something nearly sculptural. His work consistently features alluring colors and curvilinear forms.
Currently, he is developing a series of paintings on canvas, where he explores the possibility of creating new narratives by questioning the very form of the format and the technique itself. To do so, he draws from the history of painting and its function in our present time. Many of these works ultimately become liminal objects, existing between painting, sculpture and installation.
