about Eva Alonso

Madrid, 1978

The earliest influences on Eva Alonso’s work are likely found in her father’s comic book collections from the 1970s and 1980s. Magazines such as Tótem, El Víbora and Creepy, and illustrators like Moebius and Robert Crumb, were present throughout her childhood and adolescence, shaping a visual language she has carried with her ever since. This style has progressively evolved into a more naïve and spontaneous method that allows her freedom of movement—a naïf approach contrasted with the sarcasm of her content. One of the defining traits of her work is the use of bright colors and quick strokes, a peculiarity she combines with dark themes, employing humor and parody in contrast to her cartoon-inspired figures. Born in Madrid in 1978, she graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Valencia and obtained an Erasmus scholarship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, Italy. She currently lives and works in Barcelona. She has taken part in solo and group exhibitions in galleries in Barcelona, Madrid, Prague and Los Angeles, and in art fairs such as Marte in Castellón and Volta in Basel, Switzerland. She has also published in various fanzines and magazines such as Ballast in France. In 2021, her work became part of the art project Colección Solo in Madrid.
