about Kohlene Hendrickson

California, 1958

Kohlene Hendrickson is a Californian-born artist based in the medieval village of Romainmôtier, Switzerland, where she has lived since 2000. She studied Fine Arts at Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles and worked for over a decade as an illustrator and art director before returning to painting. Her studies in fresco with Frederico Vigil, in the lineage of Diego Rivera, led her to Italy, where she discovered encaustic painting, an ancient technique using natural materials. Hendrickson’s practice explores dimensionality, embodiment, and the cosmic nature of Eros, blending abstraction and figuration to evoke the intimate connection between the human and the universal.
