about Juan Genovés

Valencia, 1930

The name Juan Genovés is synonymous with the recent history of Spain. His firm conviction about transformative art, committed to the environment, led him to form part of very significant groups in the Spanish post-war scene: Los Siete (1949), Parpallós (1956) and Hondo (1960). In this last group, which represented a new figurative approach to Informalism, Genovés developed an expressionist and provocative style of painting. On this occasion he uses the technique of Giclée or digital printing with a particularity: the works, made in short series of 10 copies, have been intervened with a wide variety of materials, signed and serialized manually by Juan Genovés, which gives each work the condition of being unique and original.
