about Luis Fega

Vegadeo, Asturias, 1952

Luis Fega was born in Vegadeo (Asturias) in 1952. A self-taught artist, he held his first exhibition in 1976 at the Círculo Mercantil in Santiago de Compostela. In 1983, he received a grant for young artists from the Ministry of Culture, and in 1987, another from the Principality of Asturias. His work covers a wide range of themes, from landscapes—mainly of northern and central Spain—to mythological scenes.

From sober forms and muted chromatic tones, Fega has evolved towards compositions in ocher tones and greater formal refinement. He has participated in several editions of ARCO (1988, 1990, and 1991) as well as in numerous group exhibitions, notably the "VI Salón de los 16" (1986) at the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art.

Regarding Luis Fega's work, it is remarkable for the balance it achieves between gesture and form, abstraction and geometry. Currently, his use of uninhibited color results in canvases and papers of great plasticity.
