Art Madrid'26 – Bidias Romaric – My patenaire (2024)

about Bidias Romaric
Camerún, 1995
Self-taught and full of overflowing energy and a great sense of humor, Bidias offers committed paintings addressing the Anglophone crisis. His works contain numerous messages denouncing the political situation currently unfolding in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon. With undeniable talent and contagious vitality, he draws us into his daily life. An admirer of the renowned father of contemporary art, JM Basquiat, Bidias pays tribute to him through erratic writings and layers of frenetic graffiti. He lives and works in Buea, in the country’s English-speaking area.
Artist statement: “My artwork portrays how our personalities can impact our society. Today, everything happening around us—media, lifestyle, culture—is influenced by our identity.”
