about Carmen Van den Eynde

Torrelavega (Cantabria), 1947

A Doctor of Fine Arts and former professor of “Digital Image” in the Department of Drawing II at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Complutense University of Madrid, she built a broad career with numerous solo and group exhibitions in Madrid, Cantabria, Asturias, León, Alicante, and other locations, including PhotoEspaña, the Botanical Garden of the UCM, the Marcelino Botín Foundation, and several regional museums. Her work has received awards such as the First Adaja Prize in Ávila, the Photography Prize of Colmenar Viejo, and the III Albacete Biennial. Together with her husband, painter Alfonso Galván, she forms an experienced muralist team. The piece presented belongs to her most recent period, Reflejos, marked by an intimate and contemplative approach that emerged during a period of fragile health, leading her to observe the light and shadows of her garden and return to painting. Previously, she was a pioneer in contemporary photographic techniques, creating still lifes of flowers and fruits she grew herself, as well as an extensive series devoted to the tulip, especially the Rembrandt tulip.
