about Lúcia David

Anadia, (Portugal), 1966

Lucia David went to the UK to study Fine Art at Camberwell College of Arts. She graduated in sculpture with an MA Book Arts from the same institution. Her work as been installation/art, produced with and around her original short stories. Her work reflects the combination of her Portuguese cultural background with present and relevant women issues and world politics. Lucia´s work praises imperfection, texture, roughness and simplicity, speaking as loud as it can in silence, as “object-questions” with waste paper based materials. Her body of work as always been about reconstructing one of the most important “technologies” - the book - and reshaping it by reusing it’s ingredients (form, material and content).
